# SOVa – Spolek okrašlovací Vladař

> SOVa (Spolek okrašlovací Vladař) is a Czech voluntary heritage association based near Žlutice in the Karlovy Vary Region. Since 2010 we restore small sacred monuments — wayside crosses, statues and chapels — and build and maintain hiking trails in the landscape around the Vladař hill.

## About

SOVa was founded on 13 June 2010 by MUDr. Hana Hnyková, Ing. Michal Hnyk and Ing. Daniel Smysl, when they discovered a broken wayside cross while building a bench near Kolešov. The association operates under Žlutice 2000 o.s. alongside the Žlutičan theatre group and Rosa Coeli choir.

The region around Žlutice (population ~2 500) was heavily affected by the post-war expulsion of German-speaking inhabitants in 1945. Many sacred monuments were abandoned or destroyed. SOVa identifies, documents and funds their restoration, working with craftsmen, grant bodies (Ministry of Culture, EU SZIF, Karlovy Vary Region) and volunteers. To date, 41 monuments have been catalogued and restored.
